Anup Chandra Pandey, a retired IAS official, was appointed Election Commissioner on Wednesday, according to the Election Commission of India (ECI).
Mr. Pandey, an Uttar Pradesh cadre IAS officer from the 1984 batch, completes the three-member commission with Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sushil Chandra and Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar. In 2019, he stepped down as the Chief Secretary of Uttar Pradesh.
The State successfully organised the Kumbh Mela at Prayagraj and Paravasi Bhartiya at Varnasi Diwas in 2019 under his administrative supervision as Chief Secretary, according to the statement. Mr. Pandey formerly worked at the Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of Labour and Employment.
