Book Review: “Urine, Yoghurt, Psychotomy” by Richik Banerjee – The Literature Times Magazine Vol 1 Issue 3

“Poetry is the play of right words with some of the most in-describable emotions, while poets are those players who plays with the beautiful words and makes way to compose these heart touching and soulful poems for us!”

Reviewing this amazing poetry collection book, “Urine, Yoghurt, Psychotomy” by Author-Poet Richik Banerjee has been a very satisfying experience to me since I started my writing journey as a poet. And now whenever I get a chance to review a Poetry Collection book, I not only enjoy reading these new and expressive poems, where the Poet conveys some unheard messages through their words, but also I get the opportunity to learn something new regarding the composition of poetry, each time!

About the Author: Author Richik Banerjee’s poems, in their multilingual, calligraphic, musical, visual and mathematical experiments, ruffle all possible feathers of poetic lyricism. This is a vertical writing, imagined as rupture, almost in a Neo-Dadaist strain. These are poems that think the destiny as well as the density of poetry, if not literature, with an acute self-reflexivity. The young poet’s destructive wit shimmers through the creative ruins of language. What Richik calls ‘hyper-excretional realism’ in these poems takes us to the alternative horizons of poetry as accelerated theorization – a movement through the modalities and the vehicular aspects of lexicography. Poetry is subsumed by writing in these remarkable word-vomits. – Arka Chattopadhyay

The basic assumption that we make about poetry is the flawed logic of predictability, be it rhyme, rhythm, meter, or even content. Here is a poet who suffers from a rare “hypotonictetrazonoicmucusy” and his poetry belongs to the same malignancy as those of Tristram, Bloom, Pozzo, Finnegans, Hatter and Uzzi-Tuzii. Find his poems and let me know if you differ. – Amit Shankar Saha

This poetry collection book is unique within its enriched vocabularies and presentation, travelling deep and dense into the emotions of readers leaving a long lasting impact. Well, the author describes his book as a fail attempt to excrete poetry in a solid form. The (dead) poet is guilty at (un) making certain poetic knots that lie at the heart of any lyric. The lyric escapes from the pages and writing becomes the only valid tool to make some sense of its economical escapism!
