Shri Mahendra Singh was born on 14th August 1940 in village Amka, now in Gautam Budh Nagar, Uttar Pradesh.  His early education was in Delhi.  After graduating from Delhi University, he did his Post Graduate Diploma in Personnel Management from Faculty of Management Studies, Delhi University. He also completed a full time course on Management of Agricultural Cooperatives from Cooperative College, Loughborough UK.  Shri Mahendra Singh retired from the post of Managing Director of National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India (NAFED). He also worked as Managing Director of National Cooperative Consumers Federation of India for about two years on deputation from NAFED.

Shri Mahendra Singh has written Personnel Manuals of some national level apex organisations.  In 2003, as Country Consultant of International Cooperative Alliance (ICA), he did a Critical Study of Agricultural Cooperatives and Informal Cooperative Farmers Movement in India. This report was discussed in the ICA Sub Regional Workshop on strengthening Agricultural Cooperatives in Asia Pacific Region in Colombo in May 2003. His name was also mentioned in INFA Publications’ India’s Who’s Is Who Book for the year 1991-92

 In 2018, Shri Mahendra Singh wrote a Book on Rawal Family of Amka on the occasion of completion of two hundred years of existence of his village Amka and also to pay tribute to his parents, ancestors and other family members. The revised second edition of the book was published recently n June 2020. This book is mentioned in the India Book of Records for collecting largest number of photographs of seven generations belonging to ne single family. In addition, he created a www.rawalfamilyofamka.com to update the various events occurring in the family. 

After retirement, Shri Mahendra Singh is associated with a number of social and senior citizens bodies. He is the founder President/ General Secretary of many such organisations..

He has travelled extensively within India and abroad. He as visited United Kingdom, France, Italy, Switzerland, Australia, New Zealand, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Srilanka. A few of the above countries, he visited many times over.
